Saving as JPEG with Photoshop
Monday, April 21st, 2008After having edited a photo from camera with 16-bit AdobeRGB color, here is what I do to save as JPEG while maintaining finetuned colors and tones:
- Flatten image (from many layers to one layer).
- Convert to 8 bit (JPEG doesn’t support 16 bit): Image -> Mode -> 8 bits/Channel
- Convert Color Profile (Edit->Convert To Profile…) to sRGB.
Important to choose Convert to… and not Assign…! - Then save as JPEG using either Save As or Save for Web & Devices. Use the first to preserve EXIF tags from camera, use the latter if you want to finetune compression and target file size.
